Art has always been my lodestar, but I’ve taken a few detours along the way to pay the rent. As a Fine Arts major In college, I was drawn to sculpture. After graduation, I studied with a classical anatomist and then found work in a sculpture foundry in Israel. After returning to the States, I continued to craft new sculptures in bronze and aluminum. I wanted to capture the rhythm and patterns in Nature and illustrate how the elements intertwine and impact each other. As a child growing up on the Jersey shore, I would walk along the deserted beach and study the sand patterns to determine what the wind and tide had done the previous night to generate those patterns, and how the sand and the sea influenced each other. These works appear under the Sculpture Heading.
I took a couple of computer courses in the eighties and moved into the world of work. My first job was with a small income tax software company, but I soon found another position working for a software company that developed graphics applications. This launched me into further employment opportunities, and an unintentional 25-year career that included software development, consulting, and work as an IT Business Analyst.
I retired in 2014 and thought I’d try to return to my art roots. I began with oil painting and found that it’s not so easy picking up where you left off after 25 years. Once again, what I wanted to capture was the visual manifestation of nature’s rhythms; focusing on capturing the atmospheric sensations that stirred a sense of an impending change. These works appear in my Oil Paintings section.
Then, I saw David Hockney’s iPad works. I liked everything about working on the iPad. I don’t need a lot of space, I can take it with me anywhere. It doesn’t require trying to get into shows or selling pieces, or buying supplies, or cleaning up, Best of all. my past experience working for a graphics application gave me a strong knowledge of how to achieve what I envision on the iPad.
The iPad Studies are a more whimsical narrative of my weekly life as l challenge myself on how to capture the essence of my subject of fascination that week. Please view my latest sketches under iPad Studies
The iPad paintings are works from places that I have visited that have inspired me in a deep, spiritual way. Please view my latest e-paintings under iPad paintings.
I currently reside in Denver. Most of the oil paintings and iPad works are from my life here.
