Horse Cloud
06.20.2022
This one cloud tonight looked like a horse rearing up
This Zucchini Seed is Ready to Plant
05.30.2022
It’s been a very busy weekend. I forgot about the seeds that I was germinating. This morning when I checked them, this little guy had busted out of his shell and was raring to go.
Wild Wheat
05.25.2022
I found these stalks of wheat while walking in the park today. Not quite enough for a loaf of bread, but certainly enough for a sketch.
Fennel seeds
04.16.2022
Lovely fennel seed before being pulverized for tonight’s dinner
Red Leaf Sorrel
04.08.2022
Our Red Leaf Sorrel in our cold frame has come back and is harvestable. Yay!
Bouquet
04.02.2022
Jim brought me these lovely flowers from Trader Joe’s this week. It makes me feel like spring
Orchid
03.27.2022
It’s taken months, I swear, but the orchid bud has finally opened.
My Father’s Wedding Ring
03.20.2022
Thinking of my father on this day of his Yahrzeit. I can’t believe it’s been 25 years…. I still miss him.
Nuts and Seeds
03.07.2022
Things I can’t eat this week because I’m having a colonoscopy on Friday.
Eggplants
02.25.2022
We went to the Persian market today. They had so many different types of eggplants. These ones were so cute that I had to buy them.
Rosemary
02.24.2022
We cut too much rosemary for tonight’s dinner.
Rosemary Sprig
02.22.2022
At this point, the only thing harvestable in the cold frame is the rosemary. Pretty soon the oregano will start coming back.
Candle
02.14.2022
Well, that was a good lesson. Never light the candle that you’re drawing until you are ready to actually draw the flame as it does change the shape and height of the candle as it burns.
Thumb Print Biscuits
02.02.2022
I baked thumbprint biscuits today. They tasted divine but the crumb topping was so crumbly that it appeared to explode off of the biscuits if you even came near them. Dangerous!
Radishes
01.30.2022
These really were radishes that I drew but they didn’t come out so great, sadly.
Fish Jawbone
01.20.2022
I thought this was a total failure after I finished it but then I looked at it again later and was actually pleased with it.
Mushrooms
01.16.2022
Ever since COVID, I have not been able to find crimini mushrooms at the store. So, settling for these boring white ones.
Red Bell Pepper
01.05.2022
Sometimes a pepper is just a pepper…
Kentucky Coffeetree Seedpod
12.29.2021
I picked this up while walking in the park today. Then I realized that I had no idea what it was for labeling the study. I went back to the park with Google Lens primed to see if I could figure out what type of tree it was. But when I got to the tree I saw it actually had a sign on it that said it was a Kentucky Coffeetree.
Banana
12.22.2021
For the record, bananas are rather boring to draw…
Pomegranate
12.14.2021
Pomegranates were hard to come by this year. But I found this little beaut!
Halloween Squash
10.31.2021
For the last couple of years, Jim has made a special Halloween dinner. He makes stuffed peppers (the orange ones) and I carve jack o’ lantern faces on them, and he makes pumpkin soup that he serves in individual little squash tureens, like this little baby. It’s too cute for words and very festive.
Tomatillo
09.08.2021
We grew tomatillos this year. But the lanterns were all hollow. I researched it and found out that you have to grow two so they can cross-fertilize. A couple weeks later I was showing them to a friend who was in town visiting and went to show him that they were hollow, but, Surprise!, they had tomatillos in them! Someone in the neighborhood must also be growing them and for this I am truly grateful. We made a fabulous tomatillo sauce for fish with them.
